On Friday, Iltija Mufti, a prominent figure in the People's Democratic Party (PDP), participated in prayers at the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. This information was confirmed by a party official.
During her visit, Iltija, who is the daughter of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, offered collective prayers in the women's section of the mosque located in the Nowhatta area of the city.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the head of the Hurriyat Conference and a leading cleric in Kashmir, delivered the Friday sermon at the mosque. However, a PDP representative clarified that there was no meeting between Iltija and Mirwaiz, emphasizing that her visit was not politically motivated.
Notably, last year, Altaf Bukhari, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, became the first mainstream leader in three decades to pray inside Jamia Masjid, a site that was once a stronghold of separatist politics.
